TDK Corporation is expanding its Micronas Embedded Motor Controller family, HVC, with the HVC 5223C, a certified automotive-grade, Tier 1, fully-integrated motor controller capable of driving small brushed (BDC) or brushless (BLDC) motors with peak phase currents up to 2 A. The HVC 5223C is available in a compact, 5x5 mm2 24-pin QFN package and is functionally compatible with the HVC 5222C pinout. The HVC 5223C is available in a compact 5x5 mm2 24-pin QFN package and is pin-to-pin functionally compatible with the HVC 5222C, which has 1 A peak current capability.

In addition to the ability to drive 1 A or 2 A peak currents, the HVC 5222C and HVC 5223C devices will offer a number of motor-specific analog and digital features, such as phase comparators, virtual starpoints, and current-sense amplifiers, to enable sensorless control for sensor-controlled single brushless DC motors, or to drive two brushed motors as well as a variety of other loads.

The HVC family, including the HVC 4x and HVC 5x, now extends to seven fully integrated motor controllers with three to six motor outputs capable of supporting peak currents from 500 mA to 2 A. The HVC family is available with a 32-bit ARM controller, a 32-bit ARM comparator, a virtual starpoint and a current-sense amplifier. All devices are equipped with a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M3 CPU core and 32 KB or 64 KB Flash options. In addition, all devices feature a 12-bit, 1 µs ADC for a wide range of measurements, providing a wealth of options for applications that require accurate sensing. The devices are also equipped with LIN transceivers and UARTs for communication and auto-addressing using the BSM method*, adding to their versatility in a variety of applications.

All HVC devices are automotive-grade Class 1 temperature certified to the AEC-Q100 standard, making them a solution for compact automotive actuator applications primarily aimed at HEV/EV heat exchange systems. **AEC-Q100 certification ensures that the HVC 5223C meets the highest standards of quality and reliability, making it a trusted choice for automotive and industrial application scenarios.
