Small package motor driver IC with fewer external parts saves board space
Toshiba Electronic Components and Memory Devices Corporation today announced the release of the motor driver ICs "TB67S581FNG," "TB67S580FNG," "TB67H481FNG," and "TB67H480FNG," which not only require a reduced number of external parts, but also utilize a small, extremely versatile and space-saving package, for both consumer products and industrial equipment.
Two of the new products, the TB67S581FNG and the TB67S580FNG, are 2-phase bipolar stepper motor driver ICs. the TB67S581FNG has a motor output rated voltage (absolute max.) of 50 V and a motor output rated current (absolute max.) of 2.5 A [1], while the TB67S580FNG has a motor output rated voltage (absolute max.) and current (absolute maximum) are 50V and 1.6A, respectively [1].
The other two products, TB67H481FNG and TB67H480FNG, are constant-current dual H-bridge driver ICs with a rated motor output voltage (absolute maximum) of 50 V and a rated motor output current (absolute maximum) of 2.5 A. The TB67H481FNG has an IN input, while the TB67H480FNG utilizes a PHASE input.
The four products are available in an extremely versatile and small HTSSOP28 package with a surface area approximately 39% smaller than the HTSSOP48 package used in Toshiba's current product, the TB67S109AFNG. Unlike QFN-type packages with terminals arranged around the periphery, the HTSSOP package arranges the terminals in two directions, making it easier to route the ICs on the board. These ICs have internally integrated capacitors for charge pump circuits, which not only reduces the number of external parts but also saves board space.
The motor driver ICs not only support motor supply voltages from 8.2V to 44V, but also have a low power consumption current (IM1) of up to 20μA in sleep mode, making them widely used in 12V/24V power supply applications.
