Infineon Introduces TLE988x and TLE989x Series of MOTIX MCU Embedded Power ICs
Infineon further expands its comprehensive and proven MOTIX™ MCU embedded power IC portfolio with the introduction of the TLE988x and TLE989x series. Infineon's system-on-chip solutions integrate gate drivers, microcontrollers, communication interfaces and power supplies on a single chip, enabling the smallest possible board footprint. The new TLE988x and TLE989x series offer higher performance and feature CAN (FD) as communication interface. The new ICs are AEC Q-100 certified and are ideal for automotive brushed DC motor and brushless DC motor control applications in body, comfort and thermal management applications.
Andreas Doll, senior vice president and general manager of the Intelligent Power product line at Infineon Technologies, said, "By using fast and robust on-chip CAN FD transceivers for host communication, the new MOTIX MCU family of embedded power ICs meets the customer's need to minimize the need for an integrated intelligent motor control solution. Compared to the proven TLE987x product family, the new product family offers approximately 60 percent more processing power and provides functional safety and cybersecurity features that are increasingly important for applications such as fuel pumps in thermal management systems for electric vehicles."
The new devices feature B4 or B6 bridge N-channel MOSFET drivers, Arm® Cortex® M3 microcontrollers, a CAN (FD) controller and transceiver supporting communication speeds of 2 Mbps. With a high system frequency (60 MHz) and a dual flash memory function that can be read while writing, customers not only enjoy fast and stable communication, but also get the highest computing performance. The relevant features of the new products are compliant with the ISO 26262 (ASIL B) standard, and some models also have built-in cybersecurity features. All of these features are integrated in a 7 mm x 7 mm TQFP package with an industry-leading footprint.
The MOTIX MCU TLE988x two-phase bridge driver family and the MOTIX MCU TLE989x three-phase bridge driver family contain semiconductor devices with up to 256 kB of Flash memory and support a temperature range of up to 175°C (Tj max). In addition, the ICs feature Infineon's patented adaptive MOSFET control algorithm, which compensates for variations in the system's MOSFET parameters by automatically adjusting the gate current to achieve the desired switching operation. This optimizes the system's immunity to EMI (electromagnetic radiation, slow slew rate) and power consumption (short dead time). Adaptive MOSFET control also enables supply chain flexibility by maintaining the same switching behavior across different MOSFET production lots or MOSFET suppliers.
To speed up the evaluation and design introduction process, the MOTIX MCU embedded power ICs are supported by a comprehensive ecosystem of software, evaluation boards and kits, as well as several simulation, configuration and visualization tools. Infineon also offers a 150 W cooling pump reference design. In addition to example and demo software, Infineon offers a comprehensive stack of commercially available software products covering the ASPICE automotive standard motor control algorithm library including FOC algorithms.
