Molex has launched the FAKRA II SMB connector, which has further improved performance than the first generation of high-performance FAKRA connectors. The FAKRA II-modified connectors meet the US and German FAKRA automotive standards, feature 360º swivel capability for easy routing inside vehicles, and feature a secondary insertion latch for increased reliability.

"The FAKRA II connector responds to the automotive industry's growing demand for onboard telematics services and connectors that are price-competitive and improve functionality," said Roger Kauffman, RF product marketing and sales manager at Molex. The system also maintains compatibility with first-generation FAKRA connectors for a variety of telematics applications, including GPS systems, satellite radio, cellular telephony, WiFi, Bluetooth and wireless access control."

FAKRA II connectors offer numerous keying options and color codes for design flexibility and easy reference. Cable mount receptacles and plugs offer added versatility, while new products feature pressed contacts and machined or die-cast connector bodies for lower cost than first-generation, all-mechanical FAKRA connectors. Because it is a drop-in product, customers can use Molex components to easily replace different manufacturers' FAKRA II connectors.
