Turck introduces ultrasonic sensors
Turck's RU-U series of ultrasonic sensors enables customers to cover a larger detection range with fewer models. the M18 and M30 series products have larger detection distances, which makes inventory management more efficient. This is mainly due to the product's extremely small blind zones, which are small even at long detection distances.
In order to be able to fulfill all application requirements with fewer models, Turck has introduced a unique and versatile product range: Even the compact models RU40 and RU100 can be selected via the teach-in adapter for either the operating mode (direct-reflective/reverse-plate) or the mode of operation (normally open/normally closed).
In addition to this function, the standard model can be set up with a detection window and two independent switching points via the teach-in adapter or the sensor's own teach-in button. The high-end models have both switching and analog outputs, and via IO-Link it is also possible to set: operating mode, temperature compensation and output function. If several sensors are installed side by side, synchronized mode or multiplexed mode can be set to prevent interference between sensors.
Large detection range
Turck's new generation of ultrasonic sensors offers a larger detection range: the M18 series has a longer detection distance, while the M30 series has a new design that eliminates the need to increase the size of the detection head. The new products better meet current application requirements and effectively extend the range of ultrasonic sensors.
small blind spot
The extremely small blind spot makes new products fully backward compatible. When the measured object is close to the sensor, it can still be detected stably, thus reducing the requirement for installation depth (e.g. for liquid level detection applications). In order to avoid false signals, there must not be any objects in the blind zone, thus the small blind zone allows for more flexible installation and more reliable detection.
Ruggedized housing
Compact, one-piece all-metal cylindrical housing with all-metal M12 connector allows the sensor to be used in harsh environments. The through-threaded construction makes the product easy to install.
Smooth transducer membrane surface
The smooth transducer membrane surface prevents dirt from sticking to it. Under normal conditions, the transducer can be self-cleaning by removing deposits through the mechanical vibration of the transducer. In high humidity environments, sticky dirt can be easily wiped off the membrane surface, keeping the transducer surface and protection ring clean. No sharp or pointed cleaning tools are required.
Easy to teach
To make commissioning simple and precise, all M18 and M30 series ultrasonic sensors come with a teach-in function on the fifth pin. Switching points or detection ranges can be easily set without the need for external software. The detection range can also be set using the teach-in adapter or the sensor's own pushbuttons. In order to prevent misuse, the sensor has an automatic locking function, so that operation via the pushbutton must be completed before the sensor locks itself. The sensor buttons can only be unlocked by a power restart. For full compatibility with the previous product range, the new M18 continues to use the second pin design for the teach-in input.
IO-Link interface
In addition to the teach-in function, the high-end models with switching and analog outputs can be parameterized via the IO-Link interface. For example, the sensor detection mode (direct/opposite), the time-out period, and the temperature compensation function can be set. By adjusting the internal temperature sensor to minimize the effect of ambient temperature on the ultrasonic sensor, thus improving the measurement accuracy. The rising or falling characteristic curve of analog output and hysteresis parameter of switching output can be set. And the sensor can be set to dual switching outputs with selectable output signals (NPN/PNP) and operation modes (NO/NC). Interference between sensors can be avoided by setting the synchronization function or multiplexing mode. 16-bit process data can be read through the Com2 port.
