Texas Instruments (TI) LDC1101 Inductance-to-Digital Converter (LDC) is a 1.8V to 3.3V, high-resolution data converter that enables close-range, high-speed, non-contact sensing of position, rotation, or motion, capable of Accurate measurements in controlled and harsh environments, ideal for automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, computer and communications applications.

The LDC1101 Inductance-to-Digital Converter features a dual-sense measurement core that can measure 16-bit resonator resistance (RP) and inductance (L) at speeds greater than 150 Ksps. At the same time, the converter can perform inductance measurements with a resolution of 24 bits at speeds higher than 180 Ksps. The threshold comparison function of the LDC1101 can be dynamically updated when the device is running, which greatly simplifies the design work such as high-speed gear counting.

The LDC1101 supports various inductor/capacitor (LC) combinations with an oscillation frequency ranging from 500kHz to 10MHz and an RP ranging from 1.25 kΩ to 90 kΩ. The device is configured and retrieves conversion results through a simple 4-wire SPI. The only external components necessary for operation are a 15nF capacitor for internal LDO bypass and VDD supply bypass.
