ST launches monolithic antenna matching IC for Bluetooth LE SoC and STM32 wireless MCU
STMicroelectronics Adds Two New Optimized Products to its Monolithic Antenna Matching IC Family for BlueNRG-LPS System-on-Chip (SoC) and STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x* Wireless MCUs
The MLPF-NRG-01D3 optimized for BlueNRG-LPS and the MLPF-WB-02D3 optimized for STM32WB integrate an external antenna with complete filtering and impedance matching circuitry required for optimal RF output power and receive sensitivity. The nominal impedance on the antenna side of each device is 50Ω. The chip-level packaging area is very small, the bump pitch is 0.4mm, and the package height after reflow soldering is 630µm. STMicroelectronics' new antenna-matching ICs also feature a 2.4GHz low-pass filter, making it easy to meet global radio regulations, including FCC, ETSI, and ARIB specifications.
The new IC circuit components are fabricated on glass substrates using STMicroelectronics' Integrated Passive Device (IPD) technology, which is designed to minimize signal insertion loss and outperform circuits built with discrete components. Integrating all components on the same chip also ensures consistency of component parameters and quality of the end product. In addition, ST's IPDs help speed time-to-market, reduce bill-of-materials costs, and shrink circuit size.
The BlueNRG-LP and BlueNRG-LPS SoCs, as well as the STM32WB1x and STM32WB5x, include ST's power-efficient 2.4GHz RF IP cores and come with a royalty-free protocol stack and dedicated software tools that make it easy and fast for developers with little experience in RF design. to develop advanced wireless products. Both products provide on-chip functions such as memory, peripherals, communication interfaces, regulated power supplies, and advanced hardware security features including encryption, memory protection, and public key acceleration (PKA).
Available standalone or in conjunction with a network processor, the BlueNRG-LPx SoCs support Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.3 features including point-to-point and mesh communications, advertising extension and direction finding.
The MLPF-NRG-01D3 IPD is compatible with the entire BlueNRG-LPx family, including the BLUENRG-3x5Vx, BLUENRG-3x5Ax, and BLUENRG-332xx in UFQFPN and WLCSP packages.
STM32WB5x and STM32WB1x MCUs are Bluetooth 5.3, Zigbee® 3.0 and OpenThread certified wireless dual-core microcontrollers, Arm® Cortex®-M4 processor core handles application tasks, Cortex-M0+ core manages RF communication protocols, and is packaged in WLCSP and UFBGA , can be directly connected to MLPF-WB-02D3 IPD. For connecting MCUs in UQFN and VQFN packages, STMicroelectronics also offers a different IPD chip.
