Infineon adds industrial and automotive-grade devices to its high-voltage super-junction MOSFET family for static switching applications
In static switching applications, power supply design focuses on minimising conduction losses, optimising thermal performance and enabling compact and lightweight system designs, while achieving high quality at low cost. To meet the demand for next-generation solutions, Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) is expanding its CoolMOS™ S7 family of high-voltage superjunction (SJ) MOSFETs. The devices in this series are primarily suited for applications such as switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), solar power systems, battery protection, solid-state relays (SSRs), motor starters and solid-state circuit breakers, as well as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), lighting controls, high-voltage electronic fuses/electronic circuit breakers, and (hybrid) electric vehicle on-board chargers.
The product portfolio has been significantly expanded with the addition of the innovative QDPAK Top Cooled (TSC) package, which enables a wide range of features in a small package size. These features give the device an advantage in low-frequency switching applications while also reducing cost. Thanks to the new high-power QDPAK package, the on-resistance value is only 10 mΩ, the lowest in the market for the same voltage class and in the SMD package. the CoolMOS S7/S7A solution improves overall efficiency by minimising conduction losses in the MOSFET product and provides an easy-to-use and cost-effective way to improve system performance. to improve system performance.
The CoolMOS S7 power switch also manages heat dissipation with improved thermal resistance, reducing or eliminating the need for heat sinks in solid-state designs through the use of an innovative, highly efficient QDPAK package, resulting in more compact and lighter weight systems. Available in both top- and bottom-sinking packages, the MOSFETs are able to withstand high pulse currents and cope with sudden inrush currents. In addition, this series of MOSFETs has the robustness of a body diode, ensuring reliable operation during AC line commutation.
With fewer components required, the CoolMOS™ S7 series of high-voltage superjunction (SJ) MOSFETs reduces the number of parts, enabling flexible system integration and lowering BOM (bill of materials) costs and total cost of ownership (TCO). At the same time, this series of MOSFETs also reduces response time and enables smoother, more efficient operation, especially when disconnecting current.
New 600 V industrial-grade CoolMOS S7 and automotive-grade CoolMOS S7A superjunction MOSFETs for static switching are available in top-cooled (TSC) and bottom-cooled (BSC) QDPAK packages (PG-HDSOP-22).
