Bourns, USA introduces a bidirectional Power Transient Voltage Suppressor (PTVS) diode designed for high power DC line protection applications. The new PTVS20-015C-TH is capable of handling 20 kA surge current at a low voltage of 15 V, making it an ideal and effective electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection solution for applications requiring high power DC bus protection.

Bourns® PTVS20-015C-TH PTVS Diodes meet IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 ESD protection requirements and feature low clamping voltage at peak pulse currents to help meet IEC 61000-4-5 8/20 μs lightning strike surge current requirements for protection.

To support lightning strike protection at high currents such as 60 kA in next-generation applications, designers often must parallel many solutions with lower current-handling capabilities. The Bourns® PTVS20-015C-TH meets the surge current requirement of 20 kA under the 8/20 us test, and fewer solutions can be paralleled to achieve the same level of protection required, which not only reduces the total BOM count, but also helps Save valuable space on the PCB.
