Posifa Technologies has announced a new hydrogen sensor for detecting thermal runaway in battery management systems (BMS): the PGS4100 series, which is based on Posifa's MEMS hydrogen sensor technology and accurately detects hydrogen concentration in the air by measuring changes in the thermal conductivity of the gas mixture in the BMS. detects the hydrogen concentration in the air. This technology triggers battery failure alarms in electric vehicles (EVs) faster, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The PGS4100 series product design integrates a relative humidity sensor and a barometric pressure sensor. This strategic combination allows the sensor to balance thermal conductivity variations affected by changes in air humidity and altitude to improve the accuracy of hydrogen concentration measurements. This level of accuracy enables the PGS4100 series to meet industry standards for combustible gas detection.

The PGS4100 series of products are built around a second generation thermal conductivity chip from Bosfar Technology and are packaged in an SMD package form factor that operates using a pulsed waveform. This design approach ensures that the sensor's heater temperature is nearly identical to the ambient temperature, thus ensuring intrinsic safety.

The PGS4100 series supports analog voltage outputs and I2C digital outputs, and future models will support MODBUS/UART and CAN bus.The PGS4100 series embodies durability with an IP6K9-compliant enclosure and a wiring harness terminated with automotive-grade connectors.

Key features of the PGS4100 series include humidity and pressure compensation to ensure accurate data output in harsh environments. Notably, the hydrogen sensors do not react to "poisons" or contaminants, ensuring long-term stability and reliable performance.

Thanks to the extremely small size and simple operation of the MEMS sensor element, our hydrogen sensing technology is available in many different form factors and can be adapted to a wide range of OEM requirements," said Peng Tu, President and CEO of BlueShield Technologies. BlueScope Technologies has the manufacturing expertise and resources to offer hydrogen sensing solutions in a variety of modular integration levels. As a result, our sensing technology can be integrated into any type of battery pack without having to consider ventilation technology, communication protocols, etc."
