Murata Manufacturing announced that its subsidiary in the Philippines has begun construction of a new production plant in August 2023. The purpose of this new production plant construction is to build a production system that can respond to the growth in demand for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) in the mid- to long-term

Murata has continued to increase its investment in MLCCs in recent years, and in addition to its latest plant in the Philippines, it also has a plant in Thailand, a plant in Iwami, and a plant in Wuxi, China.

In March 2022, Murata will begin construction of a new plant at the Iwami Plant (Hogan). The purpose of this new plant is to build a system that can cope with the increase in demand for multilayer ceramic capacitors in the medium and long term. The new MLCC plant was completed in April 2023 with an investment of approximately 12 billion yen. The new plant has a total floor area of 22,120 square meters and a construction area of 6,314 square meters, and its main purpose is to produce multilayer ceramic capacitors.

Murata's consolidated financial results for April to June 2023, announced on July 31, showed a 34% year-on-year decrease in net profit to 50 billion yen. Profit declined for five consecutive quarters due to the impact of low global demand for smartphones. At a press conference held on the same day, Tsuneo Murata, Chairman of Murata Manufacturing, expected that "demand for smartphones will slowly improve from the second half of July to September," and that the full-year earnings forecast would remain unchanged
