Renesas Electronics Releases First 22nm Microcontroller Sample
Renesas Electronics, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, has launched its first microcontroller (MCU) based on a 22nm process. By adopting advanced process technology, Renesas can provide users with excellent performance and effectively reduce power consumption by lowering the core voltage. Advanced process technology also provides richer integration (such as RF, etc.), which can realize the same function on a smaller die area, thereby achieving a higher integration of peripherals and storage.
Renesas Electronics, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the launch of its first microcontroller (MCU) based on a 22nm process.
The first MCU produced in a new 22nm process expands Renesas' popular RA product family based on the 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M core. The new wireless MCU supports Bluetooth® Low Energy 5.3 (BLE) and integrates a software-defined radio (SDR). It aims at building long-lifecycle products, providing users with solutions for future applications. Whether during development or after deployment, end products can be upgraded with new application software or new Bluetooth capabilities to ensure compliance with the latest version of the specification. End product manufacturers can take advantage of the previously released full feature set BLE specification for devices designed for direction finding applications based on Bluetooth 5.1 Angle of Arrival (AoA) / Angle of Departure (AoD) functionality, or via Bluetooth 5.2 synchronization channel Adding low-power stereo audio delivery to products, developers can now support all of these features on a single chip.
Roger Wendelken, Senior Vice President of the Internet of Things and Infrastructure Business Division at Renesas Electronics, said: "The strength of Renesas Electronics' MCUs is based on a wide range of products and manufacturing process technologies. We are pleased to announce the development of the first 22nm product of the RA MCU product family , which will pave the way for the next generation of MCUs and help customers verify their designs while ensuring long-term availability of products. Our products will continue to strive to provide the market with ideal performance, ease of use, and the latest features. This progress is only Just the beginning."
Renesas combines the new 22nm MCUs with other compatible devices in its product portfolio to create a broad "successful portfolio." The "Winning Portfolio" is an engineering-proven system architecture that seamlessly combines mutually compatible Renesas devices, resulting in an optimized, low-risk design to accelerate customers' time-to-market. Renesas has launched more than 300 "winning product combinations" based on various products in its product lineup, enabling users to shorten the design process and bring their products to market faster.
