RECOM R-78K Series Switching Regulators

RECOM's R-78 series of three-terminal switching regulators have been an efficient alternative to the widely popular TO-220 three-terminal linear regulators, saving energy, board space and cost by eliminating heat sinks and their assembly costs.RECOM has upgraded the specifications with the introduction of an upgraded version of the series in 2023 and named R-78Kxx. Versions are available with ratings of 0.5A, 1A and 2A respectively, offering fixed outputs of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 6.5V depending on the model, as well as conventional outputs of 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V and 15V. The input voltage range is extended to a maximum of 36V, and peak efficiency is increased to 96% over the entire range, resulting in all parts operating at temperatures up to 90°C, most of which do not require derating.

All R-78K series components are short-circuit protected with undervoltage lockout and auto-recovery, and only a simple input filter is required to meet the EN 55032 class B EMC standard specification. The 0.5A and 1A rated versions are available in a SIP-3 miniature package with a footprint of 11.5 x 7.55mm and a height of 10.2mm, while the 2A version is 11.5 x 8.5mm and a height of 17.5mm, also in a SIP-3 package.
