Pickering launches 9kV high voltage PXI and LXI switching modules
Pickering UK has launched new test switching modules capable of delivering up to 9kV performance.
The new PXI 4x-323 series and LXI 65-23x series offer a variety of topology options such as multiplexing and smaller general purpose SPST switching 'building blocks' that can be used to realize complex test setups. In addition to the loop ports found on the multiplexing and matrix products, all new models offer convenient expansion ports.
The 40-323 (PXI) and 42-323 (PXIe) SPST High Voltage Power Relay Modules have up to 14 of Pickering's own high quality reed relays on each module. These modules are capable of cold switching up to 9kV DC/AC peak, as well as hot switching up to 7.5kV DC/AC peak at up to 50W of power and can carry up to 250mA of current.
The 65-23x LXI high voltage switching product family operates in a 2U Ethernet-controlled modular chassis that can be configured with up to six plug-in switching modules. Each plug-in module can accommodate up to 50 high voltage relays with the same 9kV specification as the PXI family described above. The plug-in modules are available in three versions:
- Each plug-in module of the 65-231 version can be configured as a single-pole multiplexer switch with different numbers of channels and groups. These modules can be easily interconnected via external cables to form larger multiplexing switches with up to 288 channels.
- The -65-233 version has up to 50 general-purpose SPST switches on each plug-in module for general-purpose high-voltage applications.
All modules in both the PXI and LXI families use industry-leading, ultra-high quality reed relays from Pickering Electronics, Pickering's dedicated reed relay division. These modules also feature RFI suppression elements to extend relay contact life and control surges caused by high voltage transients. The connection section utilizes Redel K or S series high voltage connectors.
"The introduction of the 9kV SPST switch on the PXI platform realizes the goal of providing high voltage switching in a small footprint. Compared to older rack and stacked instruments, the new product allows building modular and scalable test systems in the smallest possible rack space." Steve Edwards, Switching Product Manager at Pickering Interfaces, had this to say about the new product. He adds, "A large number of different configuration options are also available on the LXI platform, allowing the switching system to be tailored to better fit the requirements of the test system."
