Melexis Expands Product Portfolio with New High-Speed Inductive Position Decoder IC
Melexis launched the MLX90517 to further expand the product line of high-speed inductive position decoders that meet automotive requirements. This series of products is used in motor applications, including electronic power steering, traction motors, and brake boosters. The MLX90517 complements the MLX90510 by providing raw signals for off-chip compensation in the ECU.
Global microelectronics engineering company Melexis has released the MLX90517, further expanding its portfolio of inductive position decoders. Through an external compensation algorithm, the MLX90517 ensures an accuracy better than 0.36° up to 660,000e-rpm without any chip programming.
The MLX90517 works with a set of PCB based coils. The settings can be easily adjusted according to the number of pole pairs of the motor. Both on-axis (end-of-shaft) and off-axis (shaft-side or through-shaft) sensing modes are supported, allowing engineers to choose from a variety of coil deployment styles for reliable, accurate sensing under demanding mechanical constraints. The three-phase based coil design enhances linear handling through harmonic filtering, which is not possible with dual-coil systems.
"The MLX90510 and MLX90517 give engineers the flexibility to choose between on-chip and off-chip compensation," said Lorenzo Lugani, product manager for inductive sensors at Melexis.
MLX90517 is an ASIL C level SEooC (Security Unit of Independence) developed according to the ISO 26262 standard and supports ASIL D system integration. Withstands extremely complex electrical environments with built-in overvoltage and reverse polarity protection (±24V for supply, ±18V for output). The device is AEC-Q100 qualified and operates over the -40°C to +160°C temperature range. The device is available in a TSSOP-16 package.
