New C8 Series Real-Time Clock Modules Now Available

2023-08-07 10:36:19

Micro Crystal introduces the new C8 series of ultra-compact real-time clock modules designed to meet the needs of very small and lightweight designs.

The C8 Series skillfully combines a dedicated CMOS real-time clock chip with an embedded miniature quartz crystal in an 8-pin ceramic package measuring only 2.0 x 1.2mm. With its reliable hermetically sealed metal cap technology, the C8 series offers an ultra-thin 0.7mm side profile and a compact, ultra-lightweight real-time clock assembly. The exquisite design harmonizes miniaturization and performance.

The RV-8063-C8 and RV-8263-C8 modules of this series are able to achieve the same performance as their predecessors, despite a 50% reduction in area compared to the C7 series, at only 2.4 mm². Equipped with SPI and I²C buses, respectively, and with their ultimate stand-alone nanometer (190 nA) time-logging capability, these two modules are a fresh alternative in size-critical application scenarios.

The RV-8063-C8 is an ultra-compact CMOS real-time clock/calendar module optimized for low power consumption. An offset register compensates for the frequency offset of the 32.768 kHz clock. All addresses and data are transferred serially via the serial peripheral interface (SPI bus) at a maximum data rate of 7 Mbit/s. The register address is automatically incremented after each data byte is written or read. This tiny C8 (2.0 x 1.2 x 0.7mm) SMD real-time clock module is designed for miniature, cost-sensitive, high-volume applications.

Areas of application:

  • Internet of Things
  • Measuring Devices
  • Industrial Applications
  • Automotive Electronics
  • Healthcare
  • Wearables, Portable Devices

The RV-8263-C8 ultra-miniature real-time clock module is designed for miniature and cost-sensitive high-volume applications. This miniature C8 (2.0 x 1.2 x 0.7 mm) SMD ceramic package combines a 32.768 kHz crystal unit with a CMOS-based oscillator and real-time clock circuitry. The clock function provides a display of seconds, minutes and hours. The calendar function tracks the day, month, year, and century and automatically compensates for leap years. Programmable CLKOUT frequencies, alarm settings, and timer functions enhance the module's flexibility.
