LG Electronics recently announced the establishment of an electric vehicle (EV) charger manufacturing plant in Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.A. The plant will cover an area of approximately 5,500 square meters with an annual production capacity of over 10,000 chargers.

The Texas plant is a production center for EV chargers for the North American market. This is LG Electronics' overseas production facility since it began manufacturing EV chargers in Korea last year through its subsidiary HiEV Charger.Texas was chosen as the location for this new U.S. manufacturing site due to its logistical efficiency and utilization of existing unused facilities, among other synergies. The region is known for its well-developed automotive and financial industries, as well as its excellent logistics and transportation infrastructure.

The new plant is a strategic foothold for LG Electronics to aggressively target the North American electric vehicle charger market with supply chain management advantages. In addition, the company plans to continue to expand its EV charging business globally, including Asia and Europe.
Production of 11 kilowatt (kW) slow chargers has begun, with plans to expand to 175 kW fast chargers and 350 kW ultra-fast chargers within the year. This expansion is intended to diversify the lineup of fast chargers for commercial use and long distance travel, to meet diverse customer needs, and to enhance product competitiveness.
The 11 kW slow chargers offer flexible mounting options, such as wall mounting, and feature a load management solution that automatically controls output based on power conditions. These chargers have recently received global safety from Underwriters Laboratories (UL), meeting the UL2594 standard for electric vehicle power supply equipment, and have also received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR program's Reliable Energy and Performance Standard, recognizing their outstanding product safety.

In addition, LG Electronics plans to begin production of a 175kW fast charger in the first half of this year that supports Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) and the North American Charging Standard (NACS), providing U.S. customers with a more convenient charging experience.LG Electronics executive Cho Joo-wan previously mentioned electrification as a key inflection point for the medium- to long-term future in last year's future vision announcement, expressing the company's intention to rapidly grow its EV charger business to a trillion won scale.
